91 Freeway Closed in Orange County Due to Police Activity

Anaheim Hills, CA - The 91 Freeway in Orange County was closed Friday morning due to police activity, backing up traffic for miles in both directions. The closure extended from the area where the 91 freeway meets the 55 freeway to the Lakeview Avenue. Caltrans posted on the social media platform X that the westbound 91 Freeway at Van Buren Boulevard was closed due to a "police incident." The eastbound 91 Freeway was also closed at the same location.

A large fleet of police vehicles blocked both sides of the 91 Freeway in Anaheim Hills Friday morning May 24.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a suspect led police on a chase that ended on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim Hills. The suspect was reportedly armed and barricaded inside a vehicle. Police closed the freeway in both directions as they attempted to negotiate with the suspect.

The standoff lasted for several hours, causing major traffic delays in the area. Traffic was backed up for miles in both directions of the 91 Freeway. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody without incident. The CHP reported that no one was injured during the standoff. The 91 Freeway was reopened to traffic in both directions at approximately 11:30 a.m. Friday.
